Stories: Before the Protest

2017-03-12-0001-Edit
Seoul, South Korea. March 2017.

It was just before a pro-government protest was about to start. The president was about to removed from her position and some people were out to show their support of her. Interesting dynamic, that. Living where I do, about 2 hours from Seoul, it isn’t a common sentiment.

I had just bought some film from my friend who owns a photography shop nearby. I could hear the sound the protesters from City Hall which was about 500 metres away.

Namdaemun. It is one of the largest markets in Korea. These men, sometimes walk through the market in traditional garb. They don’t usually like photos. They don’t usually look at you.

He looked at me. Maybe it was the day. Maybe it was the occasion.

I heard him mumble as he walked by,

“It is a new day..”
